2020 Huntington Towpath Century Ride

2020 Huntington Towpath Century Riders:

I hope that you and your families are well and safe, and you are enjoying our beautiful summer weather.

I wanted to provide you with an update regarding the NEW FORMAT for the 2020 Huntington Towpath Century Ride.

Over the past month, we have been working with Dr. Don Dumford with the Infectious Disease Department of Cleveland Clinic Akron General on the development of our Safety Policies and Procedures for the 2020 Huntington Towpath Century Ride.

I am pleased to report that our plan has been reviewed and approved by the both the Summit County and Stark County Health Departments. You can find the plan here.

In order to provide maximum safety for our riders, volunteers and team members, for 2020, we are changing our format to a staggered start and an “out and back” ride, starting and ending at the Richard Howe House.

Here is some information regarding our new format:

-We will be conducting a staggered start and riders will have an assigned time to begin the ride.  There will be no large gatherings of any kind.

(If you would like to schedule a specific time with a fellow rider, please let us know and we will accommodate you as much as possible)

-All riders, volunteers and team members will participate in a health questionnaire and temperature check.

-All 1-day riders will ride 25-miles north to the Canal Exploration Center in Cuyahoga Valley National Park and return 25-miles to the Richard Howe House for lunch, and then ride 25-miles south to Crystal Springs Trailhead and return 25-miles north to the Richard Howe House.

-All 2-day riders will ride 25-miles north to the Canal Exploration Center in Cuyahoga Valley National Park and return 25-miles to the Richard Howe House for lunch, and then ride 6.3-miles south to Fairview Trailhead and return 12.6-miles north to the Richard Howe House for a total of 65-miles.

-All 2-day rides will ride 18.5 miles south to Canal Fulton and return 18.5 miles north to the Richard Howe House

(This section will highlight the newly surfaced sections in Stark County and a potential new section in Akron.)

-All riders, volunteers and team members will wear masks and maintain 6’ distance.  Bicycle riders are not required to wear masks while riding, however, when not riding, bicyclists are required to wear a mask.

(Part of our gift to you this year includes an Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition mask!  😊)

-Water stop volunteers will wear masks, face shields and gloves and place water and snacks on a table.  They will also use hand sanitizer every 15 minutes and maintain 6’ distance at all times.

-We will place tents in our parking lot and at the Richard Howe House and all activities will take place outside, including rider check in, lunch and massage therapists.  We will limit the number of riders in each tent and once all riders depart a tent, it will be sanitized and cleaned for the next riders.

(The Health Departments like that all of our activities are outside in fresh air!!)

We recognize that some riders are not yet comfortable with gathering together and some riders may choose to do their own Century Ride and that is perfectly fine with us.

If you choose to do your own personal Century Ride, please send us your photos and we will share them with everyone.

Our top priority is your safety and I want to thank everyone for your patience and understanding as we work on the all of the details for the 2020 Huntington Towpath Century Ride.

In order to safely executive the 2020 Huntington Towpath Century Ride, ALL riders, volunteers and team members must follow these directions in order to ensure everyone’s safety.  They are not optional.

I hope this information is helpful and if you have any questions or any additional suggestions, we welcome your feedback.

I greatly appreciate your continued strong support for our organization and mission and look forward to riding the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail with you!
