2018 Huntington Towpath Century Ride

Here are some weekend-of-the-ride bullet points:

Suggestion

  • If you want to truly enjoy the experience, do the ride in two days, not one

Logistics - General

  • Most riders use our bus to get them to the start point, you can then ride back to your car at your own pace
  • Your bike will be transported to the starting point after being carefully placed in a truck and covered with a furniture moving blanket so that it does not contact other bikes in shipment
  • The truck travels with the bus to the start points, when you arrive, the bike will soon be waiting for you
  • The ride will start as quickly as possible after everyone arrives and a few photos have been taken

Logistics - Saturday

  • Two day riders typically reach Massillon in mid-afternoon on Saturday
  • One day riders who do not reach Massillon by 3:00pm will be asked not to proceed.  There is not enough time to assure that the ride can be completed safely by sundown
  • One day riders typically reach New Philadelphia between 6:30pm and 8:00pm

Logistics - Sunday

  • Two day riders meet in Massillon on Sunday morning, are bussed to New Philadelphia and ride back to Massillon
  • New Philadelphia to Massillon is about 35 miles and most people finish by early afternoon

Alternative Travel Arrangements

  • Starting the day in Massillon and being bussed to the starting points is not logical for everyone.  Alternative arrangements can be made and will be discussed in detail at the riders meetings before the ride

Water Stops

  • Water stops are placed about every 10 miles along the route, both days of the ride
  • Besides water, other drink selections and healthy snacks and fruit are also available at the water stops
  • Special diet foods will be available if the event organizers are made aware of restrictions

Lunch/Dinner

  • Lunch is served at the Richard Howe House in downtown Akron, at about the 40 mile mark on Saturday
  • Lunch on Saturday will be sandwiches, pizza, fruit, cookies...a wide variety
  • From the lunch location to Massillon, it is about 26 miles, to New Philadelphia it is about 61 miles
  • At the conclusion of the Sunday ride, lunch is available at the Blue Heron Deli, Lake Avenue Trailhead
  • Special diet foods will be available if the event organizers are made aware of restrictions

Massage Therapists

  • There will be a massage therapist on Saturday at the Richard Howe House, in Massillon at the Lake Avenue Trailhead and at the end point for the one day riders in New Philadelphia
  • On Sunday, a massage therapist awaits at the end point, the Lake Avenue Trailhead
