2018 Huntington Towpath Century Ride

Water Stops and Lunch 

We are looking for people to assist us with water stops on various locations along the Towpath Trail on Day One of the Century ride - June 9, 2018 and Day Two - June 10, 2018.

Lunch will be served on June 9 at the Richard Howe House.  We need volunteers to help from 11am until 2pm to help serve lunch.


 Job description:

Water Stops/lunch volunteers will need to stay at an assigned location (locations and times below) and help pass out water and snacks to cyclists.  Volunteers will need to pick up the water and snacks during the week prior to the event and bring them to their assigned locations.  They can pick these materials up at the Richard Howe House or we can arrange another location if needed. 

Our goal is to have at least two volunteers at each site.  Volunteers may need to return any leftover water and snacks to the Richard Howe House after the event (depending on amount).

Saturday, June 9:

1)      Krieger Canalway Center – Independence (Cuyahoga Co.)

          8:00am to 9:30am

2)     Boston Store – Boston (Summit Co.)

9:30am to 11:00am

3)  Botzum – Cuyahoga Falls (Summit Co.)

10am to 11:30am

4) Snyder Ave – Barberton (Summit Co.)

11:30 to 1:00pm

5)      Canal Fulton Trailhead (Stark Co.)

11:30am to 2:00pm

6) Craig Pittman Park (Stark Co.)  (NOTE – Time may need adjusted)

1:30pm to 3:00pm

7)      Ft. Laurens – Bolivar (Tuscarawas Co.)

3:00pm to 6:00pm

8) Zoarville – End of trail at Rt. 800 (Tuscarawas Co.)

5pm to 7pm

 

             Sunday, June 10:


                      1) Zoarville (end of trail at Rt. 800 – Tuscarawas Co.)

                                9am to 11am

                       2) Ft. Laurens – Bolivar (Tuscarawas Co.)

                                10:00am to 11:30am

                       3) Craig Pittman park (Stark Co.)

                                 11:30am to 1:00pm


Food Preparation

We are looking for two to three volunteers who will be willing to assist staff with food preparation and clean up at the Richard Howe House on Saturday, June 9.  This stop will be providing cyclists with a lunch break on day one of the ride.

Job description:

Assist staff by setting up drinks, cutting fruit and deserts, replacing as needed, and helping with clean up.  Volunteers may also be needed to help the riders bring their bicycles across the connector bridge from the Towpath to the Howe House.

Location and time commitment:

  1. Richard Howe House morning – Akron (Summit Co.)

           9:00am to 12:00pm

  1. Richard Howe House Afternoon – Akron (Summit Co.)

12pm to 3:00pm

  1. Ernie’s Bicycle Shop – Massillon (Stark Co.)

12pm to 4pm

 

U- Haul Truck Drivers

We are looking for several people who will be willing to drive U-Haul trucks full of bicycles from the pickup points in Stark and Tuscarawas Counties to the starting point in Cleveland.

Job Description:

Bicycles must be hauled from two separate pickup points to the starting location in Cleveland.To do this, we will rent two U-Haul trucks and are looking for people who would be interested in driving them for us.

Locations and times:

Saturday, June 9:

  1. New Philadelphia – (Tuscarawas Co.)

4:30am - Meet at Buehler’s grocery store.

Here you will help load the bikes and then drive the truck to Settler’s Landing in Cleveland.

After unloading the bikes, you will then drive the truck to Massillon (Stark Co.) where a staff member will meet you.The staff member will follow you to the rental facility in Massillon.Once the truck is returned they will take you back to your car.

You should be finished by 10:00am.

 

  1. Massillon – (Stark Co.)

5:00am – Meet at Ernie’s Bike Shop – Lake Ave. in Massillon.

Here you will help load the bikes and then drive the truck to Settler’s Landing in Cleveland.

After unloading the bikes, you will then drive the truck to Massillon (Stark Co.) where a staff member will meet you.The truck is to remain parked there for the rest of the day.

You should be finished between 9:00am to 10:00am.

 

Sunday, June 10:

  1. Massillon – (Stark Co.)

7:30 am - Meet at Ernie’s Bike Shop – Lake Ave. in Massillon.

Here you will help load the bikes and then drive the truck to Buehler’s grocery store in New Philadelphia (Tuscarawas Co.).After unloading the bikes, you will then drive the truck to Massillon (Stark Co.) where a staff member will meet you.The staff member will follow you to the rental facility in Massillon.Once the truck is returned they will take you back to your car.

You should be finished by 10:00am.


Sweepers

We are looking for people who will be willing to serve as “sweepers” on each day of the Century Ride.

Job description:

Follow behind riders, assist them if needed, and communicate any problems or concerns to staff via cell phone. Sweepers stay at the rear of the pack and are the last ones in.

 

Locations and times:

Saturday, June 9:

Massillon – (Stark Co.)

6:00am - Meet at Ernie’s Bike Shop – Lake Ave. Massillon.

You will ride the shuttle with the rest of the participants to Settler’s landing in Cleveland.From there you will ride a total of 66 miles from Cleveland to Massillon.

You should be finished for the day by 3:00pm

 

Sunday, June 10:

Massillon – (Stark Co.)

6:00am - Meet at Ernie’s Bike Shop – Lake Ave. Massillon.

You will ride the shuttle with the rest of the participants to Buehler’s grocery store in New Philadelphia.From there you will ride a total of 35 miles from New Philadelphia to Massillon.

You should be finished for the day by 2:00pm
